interior of observatory with telescope and students

Your Window to the Universe.

Situated conveniently on the UWG campus, the observatory provides physics students with unique learning opportunities to study the universe, right at their doorstep.

Observatory Information

About

  • The UWG Observatory features a Cassegrain reflecting telescope with a 14-inch diameter mirror mounted in the dome as well as 8-inch telescopes for viewing events.
  • The observatory has been in use since 1979, and the main telescope since 2008.
  • From our very own Carrollton campus, students and people from the surrounding community have studied the Sun, Moon, planets, nebulae, comets, star clusters, eclipses, galaxies, and more.

Public Observations

Join UWG Physics for a night under the stars! We host public observations the first Monday of each month during the fall and spring semesters. Utilizing 8-14 inch telescopes, physics faculty and students take you on a journey through the night sky.

See schedule below.
