Housing Residency Requirements
First-Time UWG Policy Summary
The University of West Georgia requires all first year students to live on campus. Research has shown that students who engage with the campus community in their first year of college are more likely to successfully achieve their baccalaureate goals. Living on campus is an important part of first-year student engagement. Students who live on campus are more likely to
- Access campus resources like free tutoring, academic advising, counseling services, etc.
- Join student organizations and serve in leadership positions on campus.
- Avoid food insecurity.
- Feel safe in their residential environment.
First-year UWG students may request a waiver of the residency requirement if the following criteria are met.
Post-Secondary Undergraduate Residency Requirement
Age
I will be under the age of 21 prior to the first day of the semester at the University of West Georgia.
Marital Status
I am not married.
Parent or Primary Guardian
I do not have a dependent child or I will not be the primary custodian of a child (under 18).
Enrollment
At least 51% of my classes take place on the Carrollton campus and/or the Newnan Center.
Residency
I do not live with a parent or legal guardian within the approved zip code list for the primary campus.*
Transfer Status
I have not taken more than 30 credit hours post-high school graduation.
**Your primary campus is the UWG location where you take 51% of your classes.
Age
I will be over the age of 21 as of the first day of the semester at the University of West Georgia.

I am married.
